Social Search Redefines SEO Part 2 Transcript
Welcome to Resort Marketing Vids. I’m your host, and resident marketing expert, Michael Grimm. Here for the Resort Developers Association to help you navigate the world of online marketing.
Today we’re continuing the subject we discussed last week – search engine optimization. Specifically, how Google’s new social search function redefines search engine optimization.
Google changed the rules of search engine optimization with their new social search feature. The details are kept secret, but the jest of it is this – Google considers mentions of your company by other people as endorsements for your site. And they let you know about it when you search their search engine while your logged in to your Google account.
This, of course, levels the playing field for some of us based on the work we’ve done online compared to that of others who have been at it longer.
Last week we let know that the first thing you’ve got to do is get on Google’s social network, Google Plus. Create an account and tend to it just as you do your Facebook account.
You’ve also got to set up a Pinterest account. It’s the newest, fast growing social network. It’s image based and has gained traction faster than any major social network around. We’ll cover Pinterest on it’s own next week. For now just know that one of the things you can do to improve your social search is start pinning.
The two biggest takeaways you need for today, as it relates to social search, are share content and grow a tribe of followers that share your content with their tribe of followers.
While some businesses may attract people simply from a company blog directly on their website, many generate prospects by getting their content out in the social space and having it re-direct the person to the company website. In fact, posting your content through social media actually helps it get indexed by Google more quickly. Whenever you post a new article, make sure you post it to not only your blog but also to Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. If there’s an image with the article like an infographic, pin it on Pinterest too!
Now about getting followers & get shared – When one of your followers shares your content, you are instantly visible to that person’s entire network. This, of course, is how you go viral. With Google’s Social Search, being shared is all that more important. The number of followers you have, the number of shares, and who your followers are, are now all key components in boosting your SEO. Start focusing on building relationships with your followers and make sure you’re giving them content that is actually of value to them. Whether it’s an in-depth analysis of an obscure subject or a motivational quote to get them through the day, find out what they want and give it to them. If you’re unsure exactly what your particular audience is craving, ask. A lot of people are very responsive to a little prompting. You can also test posting different things and just wait to see what they’re most responsive to. …Use analytics, they’re your friend.
Join us next week and we’ll clarify this new Pinterest craze and teach you how to get in on, and profit from it. I’m Michael Grimm for the Resort Developers Association, I’ll see you later.Â
