Major Facebook Change #2 â Apps & The Removal of the Default Landing Tab
Hey, welcome to Resort Marketing Vids. Iâm your resident marketing expert, Michael Grimm, here for the Resort Developers Association.
Today weâre talking about some of the major changes Facebook is making. Youâll remember last week we talked about the cover photo and new timeline format thatâs being forced on business pages at the end of this month.
Well, another Major change in the mix is the way Facebook is integrating applications into the timeline format. If youâre not sure what an application is, thatâs ok. There are Facebook applications for everything. From running contests, to capturing contact information, to having a blog inside your Facebook page.
But by and large the app that will be most affected by this change, is the default landing tab, or welcome tab. Now, you can still have a welcome tab, that privilege is not being revoked. However, you can no longer have your welcome tab as your default landing tab.
What that means, is that if you set up one of the beautiful custom welcome tabs we taught you how to make a couple months ago, you can no longer set it up so that guests land on that tab first when visiting your page.
Whatâs going to have to happen instead, is youâll have to get creative thinking of ways to get people to click through to your welcome tab. Weâre still innovating here, coming up with the most effective ways to do this, and weâll report back when we do.
But in the meantime, be prepared for the switch and start formatting your pages appropriately. Facebook has it set up now where you can either switch over early, or start playing around with the timeline format to get comfortable with it. So I encourage you to get in there and see it for yourself, and start brainstorming with your team to come up with new ideas.
Thatâs all for this weeks tip. Weâll be back with more information as it comes.
Join us next week when weâll jump into online reputation management. Weâre going to cover some excellent material.
Thanks for watching, Iâll see you later.
